27 Jan Yoga for Absolute Beginners
So I’ve been trying my hand at doing yoga every day this week. I have had no previous yoga experience and I admit I’m pretty stiff and inflexible, though after doing a little bit every day for the past 7 days, I’m already noticing some change in flexibility.
Now I’ve mostly been doing yoga before I go to bed as I’ve always had trouble getting to sleep. I would lay there for anywhere between 2-4 hours before i finally slept but I’ve found this week that it’s taking less than an hour, which is a huge improvement.
I haven’t been going to classes, just from video’s on youtube which I think have been great. Though I would prefer it if I had a teacher there to correct any positions I might be doing wrong but at this stage all I can work with is youtube.
I have a lot of trouble with my back, neck & shoulders, so I’ve found a couple of videos that I do every night and it really helps stretch out all the muscles so they aren’t all knotted, stiff and in pain when I wake in the mornings. Yoginitini has some really great sequences for these that I will continue doing every night.
Sarah Beth has a great Bedtime Yoga Practice that I do last thing before heading to bed, it leaves me soo relaxed even though I can’t stretch as much as she can, I do as much as I can & it’s definitely enough. I’m even finding I can stretch more into the “cobblers pose” (I think that’s what it’s called) every night. Sarah Beth also has a tumblr.
On friday I found some great videos by Claire Austen which are designed for the Absolute Beginner. Her video’s are awesome, she shows you modifications if you aren’t able to do the full pose and she talks you through everything. The only complaint I have is her voice, it just irks me but that’s me being pedantic and I can put up with it for a great yoga video. She has a Yoga for Beginners series that takes you through  flexibility & strength. I really recommend her videos for anyone wanting to give yoga at home a try if you’ve never done it before.
